Acosta brothers bag 2 gold medals in table tennis

Victor Emmanuel “Tamtam” and Victor Benedict “Toby” Villaroman Acosta crushed their competition in table tennis singles to give the City of Ilagan two of its first three gold medals in the 2022 DepEd Dos RISE held in Cauayan City, Isabela on April 27.

Victor Emmanuel, a Grade 12 STEM student of Casa Del Niño Montessori School dominated in Table Tennis Singles A while his younger brother, Victor Benedict, a Grade 9 learner of Isabela National High School outplayed his opponents in Table Tennis Singles D.

With their victories, Tamtam copped his fourth gold medal while Toby notched his first ever gold medal in the regional level.

Toby, in an interview, admitted that he was so happy that he had tears of joy after emerging victorious against Cagayan in the finals.

Tamtam, meanwhile, said that the biggest challenge he faced during the tournament was proving people’s and friends’ expectations of him.

Tamtam first reached the Palarong Pambansa in 2015 at Tagum City; sustained his momentum and qualified himself for more national competitions in various places around the country.

The siblings are a product of City of Ilagan’s Ang Lakas at Alaga ng Batang (ALAB) Ilagueño initiative, which seeks to develop youth, as well as promote fitness and sportsmanship at an early age.
