Hokket’s not the only one. Amelyn did it too for the City of Ilagan.
Philippine Army’s Private First Class Amelyn Pagulayan, along with her teammates Joanie Delgaco, Kristine Paraon and Josephine Qua, brought home the bronze medal after clocking 7 minutes, 28 seconds and 879 milliseconds (7:28.879) in the 31st Southeast Asian Games held in Hai Phong, Vietnam on May 11, 2022.
Vietnam rowers Pham Thi Hue, Dinh Thi Hao, Ho Thi Ly and Pham Thi Thao secured the gold medal after finishing in 7:13.207, while Indonesians Maslin Efrilia, Dewi Purwanti, Annisa Meilani Yahya, and Putri Agni Anugrah bagged the silver medal after crossing the finish line 10 seconds later.
Hailing from Camunatan, City of Ilagan, Pagulayan has won various competitions in the past.
Pagulayan was a crew member of the Army Dragon Warriors which won three gold medals in the 2018 ARA Waterways International Dragon Boat Festival held in Incheon, South Korea on October 4-8, 2018.
The Army Dragon Warriors also competed in Cebu, Davao, Ilo-ilo and Manila, adding more gold medals to their collection.
Pagulayan immediately showed excellence in her first rowing exposure after bagging the bronze medal with partner Melcah Jan Caballero in Women’s Double Sculls during the 2019 Southeast Asia Junior and Senior Rowing Championships in Pattaya, Thailand.
Pagulayan, along with Paraon, also participated in the women’s pair event of the 31st SEA Games but fell short after finishing 4th place.
