Updated: Aug 18, 2022

Young student innovators from the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Strand of Isabela National High School showcased their excellence in the Division Science and Technology Fair (DSTF) on June 17, 2022.

Researchers Mary Alexisse Calibo, Maxene Malabad, Irish Pascua, Christian Binag, Johanne Sumineg, Aubrey Guingab, Van Gangan, and Vernon Caguiat won 1st place in Likha: Physical Science category. Their study is entitled “Biosynthesis and Characterization of Glycerol-Derived Poly(3-hydroxyalkanoate) Material from Microbial Consortia Cultures: Anti-pathogenic Properties for PPE Integration”.

Life Science team also brought home the bacon with their study entitled “Anti-Angiogenic Activity of Yerba Buena (Clinopodium douglasii) Leaves and Garlic (Allium Sativum) Clove Extracts using Choriallantoric Membrane (CAM) Assay: An Alternative Growth Inhibitor of Cancer Cells”. The proponents of the study are Judette Viethania Batuy, Kimberly Buguina, Rica Mae Cabalonga, Rose Lyanna Rualiso, Abigaile Cyrene Ramos, Lord Kelvin Rivera, and Roland Josh Bangug.

The robotics team copped the gold medal for their study entitled “Project AIDE, an assistive intelligent directional eyewear as a navigational guide for the visually disabled”. The researchers that presented this proposal are Melvin Jay Malenab, Stephanie Mae Ogoc, Samuel Adrian Jucar, Dane Raymone Bajet, John Laurence Ranon, Quinn Jumela Buenaventura, Allyna Isabelle Amurao, Princess Joy Tumaliuan, and Persis Madduma.

Jedryn Manangan, Steven Roque, Johanne Sumineg, and Christian Binag notched the crown in the Siyensikula category with their video production entitled “Microbes and Miracles: The Future of Plastics”.

Dane Bajet said, “The event is pressuring yet compelling to compete in. In order to keep pace with the level of the contention, superlative cognizance towards the study is more of an essential than an option”. He won the championship in Likha Physical Science under the individual category with his proposed study entitled B.A.F.T, which is a water purifying apparatus.

With these victories, the researchers will be advancing to the upcoming Regional Science and Technology Fair on July 7, 2022.
