Spearheaded by the Local Government Unit along with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), City of Ilagan launched its first batch of fully operational taxis last May 4th at the Ilagan Community Center.
The said project is part of the local government's Liveable City by 2030 program, and it was assisted by a cooperative dubbed ILAGAN PUBLIC UTILITY TRANSPORT COOPERATIVE.
City Mayor Josemarie Diaz said the 11 taxi units will ply across Cagayan Valley while 19 others will be added to the fleet. “In the near future, water transport would also be vital” Diaz added.
In an interview, City Councilor Harold Olalia said that the availability of Taxis could be an edge of the city over other cities, likewise giving the commuters an option of a mode of transportation in accordance to their capacity to pay. “[It Gives] Drivers-additional avenue of employment. It also brings convenience to them [Commuters]. The travel period can be shorter compared to shared public utility vehicles” he added.
